Rainbow balloons, upbeat music, people from all walks of life gathered to support a cause; these are the things you can expect to find at this year’s Ocala Pride Fest. This is the 4th Annual Pridefest being held here in Ocala at CF (formerly CFCC) in the Klein center on October 2 from 12-7pm. It is a celebration of love and acceptance, where you are welcome to attend regardless of your orientation. All that is asked is respect and an open mind while you are there.
This year’s Pridefest is hosting a variety of educational exhibits, seminars, and live local performances. Some of the Exhibits include the “Stonewall: The End of the Beginning of Gay Liberation” and “For Women Only: Spaces, Organizations, Events and Publications Created by and For Women”. There are seminars on marriage, history of LGBT events and on diversity and discrimination.
There are several live local bands performing at Pridefest in an effort to show support for the cause.
These bands are volunteering there time to provide entertainment to the attendees. Treblehawk, a band with strong folk roots will be serving up some upbeat tunes, Slow Motion Killers, a local alternative rock band will be encouraging fans to get their “rainmaker dance” on, UV Rays, an all male choir will be stunning attendees with their broad vocal ranges , Roberts and Vanstone, will be entertaining guests with their take on musical expression. Most of these bands hail from Ocala or the surrounding cities.
The headliner for this event is a musician from Baltimore, Brendan Velazquez; he is a very popular soloist in the LGBT community, rating number two on the television channel Logo.
This event is sure to be a fun music filled time created to encourage acceptance and community.
