new food store IN MARION COUNTY offers 20-40 PERCENT cost savings on groceries WHEN COMPARED TO CONVENTIONAL GROCERS

County officials sprint through aisles; Interfaith Emergency Services receives donation

Save-A-Lot food stores, the nation’s leading extreme-value grocery chain has just opened a new store in Marion County. The store is located at 9264 SE Maricamp Rd. in Ocala. An official “dollar-cutting” ceremony will kick-off the grand opening celebration at the store on Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.

Two Marion County Chamber of Commerce officials, both Commissioner, Mike Amsden and Chairman, Kevin McDonald will participate alongside Interfaith Emergency Services Executive Director, Gary Linn, in a “break-through” shopping cart event.  The three will compete in a timed race through the store to grab groceries to benefit Interfaith Emergency Services and local families in need.

“Save-A-Lot is dedicated to supporting the communities of Marion County with the opening of new food stores in neighborhoods where they are needed most, often in communities ignored or abandoned by conventional grocery chains,” said Rick Meyer, Vice President of Market Development for Save-A-Lot.  “This new Save-A-Lot fulfills an important need with a store that provides budget-conscious, value-seeking shoppers with great food at great prices.”

There are 104 Save-A-Lot food stores in Florida with 10 stores within a half-hour drive from Ocala.  The new store is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Local shoppers can expect to find excellent quality food and save an average of 40 percent on grocery bills.

Feeding Bodies and Investing in Communities

As part of its dedication to being a neighborhood grocery store and backing community organizations, activities and events, Save-A-Lot will make a 5,000 pound food donation to Interfaith Emergency Services to assist in its efforts to feed families during this recession.

“We are very thankful for this much needed donation,” said Linn. “With so many families struggling to make ends meet during these tough economic times, commitments like this from dedicated partners such as Save-a-Lot will help provide 4,000 healthy meals to families in need.”

Save-A-Lot also shares community commitment to the environment with efficient operations, reduction of excess and productive use of resources. This includes operating 15 strategically located distribution centers which reduces fuel and energy costs. In addition, Save-A-Lot recycles paper, plastic, cardboard boxes and aluminum and supports a green culture with its associates in its offices, stores and distribution centers. Save-A-Lot is also committed to the procurement of local produce. For the Florida stores, much of the produce comes from farmers throughout the state to reduce the impact of shipping product across the country and to support local farmers.
