We’ve been subscribers of the Star Banner for years and today my husband called with an issue. The Ocala Star Banner Circulation Department number: 352.867.7827.
After going through all the prompts the recording stated they were transfering our call. Next thing we hear a foreign voice: Hello this is Ria how may I help you?
When my husband reported this to me earlier today I didn’t believe him so I had to call myself to hear this. I tried a few times and each time I asked the representative, “Where are you located?” And each one replied: We are located in Manila. We are a “Go Center” here!
Forgive me but all I could think of was “Do we not have enough unemployed in Ocala to work for the Ocala Star Banner?” “Is this why they outsourced their circulation department to Manila?”
What do you think?

Why is this happening? It is so sad when you consider any of the possible reasons. With unemployment at an all time high, this should be a course of last resort.
And we wonder why there is so much unemployment in the US.
I have been unemployed since March of 08. There are too many unemployed and not enough jobs. Since many of my previous jobs have been customer service I would be more than happy to go answer their phones for them. LOL
People wonder why our economy is in the dirt… our own businesses won’t hire local workers…that’s why.
At least you have a local paper! Trying to look at the bright side of this story. My Dad is a retired reporter/journalist/editor. We talk a lot about huge changes happening in the newspaper industry. We will see more… Thanks for posting.
My bank account was hit for a fee of $11.50 for a month of Thursday thru Sunday papers but I have not gotten my paper. Could you please look into this asap. Thank you …
