A Review of MiMis Cafe Ocala FL

June 10, 2009
It was a dark and stormy night.
Isn’t that how all great blogs start?  ((smiles))

Okay.  In reality, it was a bright and sunny day this past Wednesday when I went to lunch at Mimi’s Cafe on 200 in Ocala (4414 SW College Rd).  It’s right in front of the new Barnes and Noble.  You can’t miss it.

I arrived at 1pm during the lunch rush.  So much for the recession.  Mimi’s was bustling.  In fact, I had a five minute wait before I got seated.
They give you a pager to alert you when your table is ready.  The hostess invited me to sit at the bar, in case I wanted have a drink rather than wait at one of their seats in the waiting area.   I opted to sit in the waiting area.  I was alone and had to drive home after all.
Once my pager went off, a waitperson walked me to my booth, in between two large tables seated with ladies, part of the Red Hat Society I presume.  Either that or coincidentally a large group of women decided to wear red hats that day.  Unlikely.
My waitress came quickly with my menu and asked what I’d like to drink.  I ordered coffee with cream.  It came right away.  Seated on the cushions of my soft red booth, I looked around at the French Bistro like atmosphere that was Mimi’s.  They had paintings, photos and posters of grapes, wine, the countryside, the moulin rouge, all suggesting you had stepped into a European cottage and the owner had very good decorating taste.
I took a look at their menu and after considering their Chicken Apple Waldorf Croissant, I opted for their endless soup and salad for $6.99, which includes a muffin.   My low fat blueberry muffin came right away.  It was steaming, piping HOT!  A little warm I don’t mind, but this was enough to heat a Wisconsin ice fisherman’s hut.
Within 10 minutes of ordering my cup of French Onion soup and Caesar’s salad, they arrived.  The soup was just right.  Not too salty, which I’ve often experienced with other French Onion Soup’s I’ve had.  Topped with melted cheese, it really hit the spot.  The salad came in a small bowl.  I expected a larger portion, but I think it’s smart to dish out small portions for an all you can eat meal.  Once you get full, there is less waste.   I had two rounds of soup and salad.
While finishing my second round, the Red Hat Ladies sang Happy Birthday to one of their members.  I think that helped my digestion.
By 1:40pm I was done eating and the total bill, minus tip was $9.67.     “An excellent value considering I could have eaten more if I wanted.”
You can access everything you wanted to know about the history of Mimi’s Cafe, the menu’s, nutritional information and more by visiting their website: www.mimiscafe.com
In the end, I had a great dining experience at Mimi’s Cafe and would recommend others to give it a try!

Ummm, sounds wonderful, I LOVE MiMi’s, but usually get one of their light bites lunch entrees. I got on their mailing list and have gotten 2-for-one light bites luncheon coupons several times. My daughter and I felt like we were really splurging but the price was so reasonable. Orlando Grandparenting Examiner http://www.tinyurl.com/ccvcsr
